SDG Localization

Grant schemes

Leave No One Behind grant scheme (for local governments [LGs]) and the grant scheme for supporting sustainable development ideas at the cantonal level

Localization and operationalization of the SDGs are achieved, among other things, through a grant scheme intended for the implementation of projects in eight local communities (Bijeljina, Gradiška, Jablanica, Laktaši, Novo Sarajevo, Posušje, Teslić, and Trebinje) and three cantons (Tuzla Canton, Una-Sana Canton, and West Herzegovina Canton).

UNDP and UNICEF organized consultative meetings with all partner local communities and cantons in the period May-July 2023 to clarify the grant schemes and their objectives, and to discuss project ideas. Along with support in identifying project ideas and developing proposals, training on project cycle management was provided. After detailed elaboration, 14 project proposals were submitted for co-financing in 2024, of which five projects originate from cantons and nine from local communities.

Through their essence and innovativeness, the project proposals contribute to the realization of local development strategies, achieving Sustainable Development Goals in BiH, and applying the “Leave no-one behind” principle through social inclusion, reducing inequalities, and introducing new services for vulnerable population groups.

The majority of projects focus on supporting children with developmental difficulties and their families, as well as their integration into daily activities. Social Welfare Centers are key partners in identifying needs and implementing newly established services.

There are at least 43,772 direct beneficiaries of the 14 projects, of which 47% are women. At least 5,644 children will directly benefit from the implementation of the projects, of which 45% are girls.

The total value of the projects is 2,156,188.00 BAM, of which LGs and cantons will provide 731,244.00 BAM. LGs will co-finance 25% of the funds for their projects, while cantons will co-finance 48% of the total value of their projects.
