About SDG 2030 BiH

“Accelerating Agenda 2030 through Governance and Sustainable Growth (SDG 2030 BiH)” is a joint United Nations programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina implemented by UNDP, UNICEF, ILO and IOM, under the coordination of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The programme builds on the results of previous initiatives that supported the establishment and implementation of Agenda 2030 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the SDGs Rollout project and the “Translating the SDG Framework in BiH into Sustainable and Inclusive Growth” programme (SDG2BiH). These initiatives played an important role in developing and implementing the SDG Framework in BiH, strengthening institutional mechanisms, localizing the Sustainable Development Goals and engaging the private sector in sustainable development.

The overall objective of SDG 2030 BiH is to contribute to the accelerated achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Bosnia and Herzegovina by strengthening systemic and integrated governance, improving the linkages between policy planning, financing and implementation, and empowering local communities, the private sector, academia and citizens to actively contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth.

The programme supports authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in implementing the SDG Framework in BiH, the country’s shared development agenda until 2030. It places particular focus on strengthening coordination between different levels of government, improving public finance, using data, innovation and digital solutions, developing partnerships, and consistently applying the principle of leaving no one behind.

The programme is organized around two mutually reinforcing results:

Result 1: Authorities at all levels apply sustainable development approaches to policy design, financing and implementation, powered by data, innovative solutions and collaboration with the private sector, academia and financial institutions.

Result 2: Local governments, businesses and citizens jointly develop and implement solutions to shared challenges, while the private sector contributes to inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Through these results, the programme will support the strengthening of the SDG governance architecture in BiH, improved strategic planning and programme-based budgeting, the development of financing and investment mechanisms for sustainable development, better local public services, the expansion of inclusive social services, sustainable urban transformation, private sector competitiveness, responsible business conduct, innovation and partnerships for sustainable development.

SDG 2030 BiH continues to build on existing results and partnerships, with the aim of accelerating Bosnia and Herzegovina’s progress towards Agenda 2030, connecting local and institutional priorities with the Sustainable Development Goals, and contributing to more resilient, inclusive and sustainable communities across the country.
