The application process for the eighth edition of the SDG Business Pioneers Award in Bosnia and Herzegovina has officially closed. This year, 443 companies submitted their candidacies, further evidence that the Award has, in just eight years, become a reference point for responsible business practice in BiH.

When the first generation of the SDG Business Pioneers Award was presented in 2019, only 44 companies recognised its value. The growth that followed speaks for itself: within just a few years, that number rose to hundreds of applications annually. This year’s 443 applications, spread across all company size categories, confirm that interest in the Award is stable and structural, not seasonal.

The breakdown of applications by company size reveals one of the key trends of this year’s cycle. Micro companies with up to ten employees make up the largest group with 245 applications, followed by small companies with 93, medium-sized companies with 62, and large companies with more than 250 employees accounting for 43 applications. The dominance of micro and small enterprises demonstrates that sustainability has ceased to be the privilege of corporate budgets — it has become a commitment of those who are still building their markets.

Applications are assessed against Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards across social, environmental, and economic dimensions, and award recipients receive an annual sustainability report — a concrete tool that remains with them beyond the ceremony. The Award is granted in two thematic areas: “People”, which recognises companies committed to equal opportunities, decent working conditions, and employee development, and “Resources & Environment”, which highlights companies investing in environmental protection, efficient resource management, and green technologies.

The SDG Business Pioneers Award is part of the programme ““Accelerating Agenda 2030 Through Governance and Sustainable Growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2030 BiH)”, a Joint Programme of the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, funded by Sweden and implemented by UNDP, ILO, IOM, and UNICEF, under the coordination of the UN Resident Coordinator. The official partner of the Award is the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The selection of finalists is currently underway, and their names will be announced at www.zamisli2030.ba. The award ceremony is planned for June 2026, when the eighth generation of SDG Business Pioneers in BiH will be announced.
