At a time when sustainability and social responsibility are becoming the norm rather than the exception, eight companies have shown that it is possible to do business differently in Bosnia and Herzegovina—responsibly, inclusively, and sustainably.
The winners of the seventh SDG Business Pioneers Award in BiH for 2025 have not only implemented modern ESG practices but have demonstrated that sustainability can be embedded into every segment of business—whether it’s a local bistro, an international school, or an IT company.
Out of a record 484 applicants, eight companies were awarded for outstanding contributions in the thematic areas of “People” and “Resources and Environment,” with iFORM taking the title of overall winner.
iFORM: When sustainability becomes the foundation of everything
The overall winner of this year’s Award, iFORM, excelled in both thematic areas. Their approach includes their own solar power plant, recycling systems, bio-septic tanks, and a strong focus on employee wellbeing. ESG principles are integrated across their operations, including their work with partners and suppliers.

“Sustainability has been our path from the very beginning—not the destination. This award confirms that business success can and must go hand in hand with care for people and the planet,” the company states.
Walter AEC: People are the foundation of everything
Winner in the “People” category among medium-sized companies, Walter AEC invests in knowledge, inclusion, equal opportunities, and digital skills in the architecture, engineering, and construction sectors. Through cooperation with universities, scholarship programmes, and workshops for young people, the company fosters a culture of respect and shared growth.

“People are the foundation of everything. That’s why we invest in knowledge, health, and equality. For us, sustainability starts with the team and ends with the quality of construction,” the company says.
Zdravo: Sustainability on a plate
Bistro Zdravo, one of the first healthy food restaurants in BiH, was recognised as one of the SDG Business Pioneers. Through the use of local and seasonal ingredients, waste reduction, recycling, and community education, Zdravo promotes a healthier and more responsible way of living.

“Our mission is to connect health, community, and responsibility to the planet. We believe that small decisions, repeated consistently, can change the world,” says the team.
IDSS: A school driving sustainability
The International German School Sarajevo (IDSS) demonstrates how education can serve as a powerful driver of sustainable societal transformation. By integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into its curriculum, children learn to identify global challenges and act locally.

“We learn and live sustainability every day. Today’s children are not just students—they are tomorrow’s changemakers,” the school notes.
TRIO: Inclusive culture as a recipe for success
Winner in the “People” category for large companies, TRIO focuses on mental health, safety, employee development, and work-life balance. Sustainability is embedded in daily practice: inclusion, professional growth opportunities, and community responsibility.

“We’re building a company where people grow, feel safe and valued. This award confirms that care for employees and the community leads to success,” the company says.
Alma Ras: Inner energy, outward transition
Alma Ras was recognised for its commitment to environmental protection and resource efficiency. A third of the company’s annual energy use is covered by its own renewable sources, and it actively develops an ESG strategy and measures to reduce emissions.

“Emission monitoring, our own solar power, and an ESG strategy. These are our steps toward a green transition—one we lead with pride,” the company states.
Desinfecta: Small team, big impact
Desinfecta proves that environmental responsibility isn’t tied to company size. By using environmentally friendly products and prioritising worker wellbeing, the company shows how even small businesses can make a big difference.

“Small businesses can be major players in sustainability. Our goal is simple—clean and responsible for both people and the planet,” the company says.
PIK / OLX.ba: Circular economy in a digital world
PIK, owner of the OLX.ba platform, was recognised for advancing the circular economy and reducing environmental impact through digital tools. By buying second-hand items, OLX users extend the lifespan of products and directly contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions.

“Our platform gives products a second life and natural resources a second chance. Sustainable consumption is no longer a choice—it’s a responsibility,” the company notes.
The award ceremony, held on 18 June in the Energoinvest building, brought together over 200 guests—from business leaders to representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organisations.
The SDG Business Pioneers Award is part of the programme “Translating the SDG Framework in BiH into Sustainable and Inclusive Growth (SDG2BiH),” funded by Sweden and implemented by UNDP in partnership with UNICEF and UN Women, as part of the United Nations’ support to authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in implementing the SDG Framework. The official partner of the Award is the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
