PARTNERSHIPS – ACCELERATORS OF SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT
The SDG Week in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is an annual, nationally owned meeting, consultation and discussion platform that promotes the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country. The SDG Week in BiH is among the main instruments of the SDG Council in BiH’s, with support by the UN, to raise public awareness and engage all societal stakeholders in conversations about success stories, innovative approaches and lessons learned that contribute to the impactful implementation of the Agenda 2030 in BiH.
With only seven years remaining until 2030, this year marks the mid-point in the implementation of the Agenda 2030. This year, key stakeholders globally focus on taking stock of the progress made since the adoption of the Paris Agreement and identifying ways to accelerate the pace of achieving the SDGs. Partnerships are among the most powerful instruments to accelerate efforts towards sustainable and inclusive future.
In July 2023, BiH, along with other 40 countries, presented its second Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York. The connecting thread across global discussions during the 2023 HLPF was related to accelerating implementation of the SDGs, including through speeding up the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, towards full achievement of the Agenda 2030 across the planet. Taking inspiration from this global conversation, and following the global SDG Summit in September 2023, the SDG Week in BiH 2023 is an excellent opportunity to present the key findings and messages of the BiH VNR to the wider public, as well as explore how strategic and diverse partnerships can be a powerful engine for faster implementation of the SDGs in the country. The 2023 SDG Week in BiH will put the spotlight on several topics that are vital for the overall implementation of the SDGs – such as SDGs localization, SDGs financing, transition towards circular economy, gender equality as a horizontal SDGs accelerator, digital transformation, and explore how partnerships can propel and maximise efforts in these areas. To augment the knowledge at a regional scale and tap into experiences from wider Western Balkans region and European Union, the SDG Week in BiH 2023 will also engage other countries in the discussions and exchange of good practices and advocacy for development partnerships.
The SDG Week in BiH 2023 will take place in the week of 09–13 October 2023.
The series of events within the SDG Week in BiH will aim to engage and reach out to the wider public from BiH and particularly – engage young people, alongside policy-makers, businesses, academia, innovators, civil society and media from the Western Balkans and the European Union.
The SDG Week in BiH is supported by the “Translating the SDGs Framework in BiH into Sustainable and Inclusive Growth (SDG2BiH)”, an initiative funded by Sweden, and implemented by UNDP in partnership with UNICEF and UN Women, under the United Nations’ overall support extended to the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in coordination with the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in BiH.
The SDG Week in BiH will be organised through a series of face-to-face events, conferences, workshops and happenings, alongside on-line advocacy and awareness raising campaigns.
SDG week in BiH aims to be a carbon-positive event and offset its CO2 footprint by purchasing trees on TvojCO2.ba carbon offsetting digital marketplace. UN agencies organizing events in the framework of the SDG Week in BiH 2023 will plant trees for each confirmed participant (investing more to make each event CO2-positive), which will also offset the CO2 emissions produced during the preparation and holding of the event.
Detailed programme of all the events and more information about them will be available soon.
