Voluntary National Review
Implementation of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals in Bosnia and Herzegovina
which is the most comprehensive global sustainable and transformational development agreement for all United Nations Member States and has the Sustainable Development Goals at its core. It helps countries commit, align and measure their respective contribution to such an ambitious yet crucial endeavor.
For Bosnia and Herzegovina, Agenda 2030 is a catalyst for profound change. Its timing and universality offers a unique opportunity to approach development holistically and achieve good and efficient administration and public sector management, a society of equal opportunities and smart growth.
In July 2019, Bosnia and Herzegovina presented its first Voluntary National Review (VNR) on Sustainable Development Goals at the High-Level Political Forum in New York. Following this significant milestone, Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the most important document for the implementation of Agenda 2030 – the SDG Framework. Thereafter, work on a 2030 SDG Framework for BiH 2030 continued through stakeholder consultations, as one of the main guiding documents for national and sub-national development planning as part of the 2030 Agenda.
In 2023, Bosnia and Herzegovina presented its second Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the High-Level Political Forum in New York. This comprehensive report was jointly prepared by the relevant institutions at all administrative levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The latest VNR highlighted not only achievements and good practices but also acknowledged the hurdles that hinder significant progress in several areas. It underscored the imperative need to focus the efforts on innovative financing mechanisms to drive projects aligned with the SDGs, strengthening the private sector and improving the still underdeveloped public-private partnership.
