The applications for the SDG Business Pioneers Award in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2024 are closed, and the huge number of received applications is evidence that numerous companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina are becoming increasingly dedicated to sustainable development and the implementation of sustainability principles into their business strategies.

A total of 360 companies have expressed interest in applying for the SDG Business Pioneers Award in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the year 2024, representing a significant increase compared to 2023 when 114 companies applied. These companies come from various parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and operate in different sectors. Of the total applicants, 28% are large and medium-sized companies based on the number of employees, while a total of 72% are small and micro-enterprises, which are more numerous in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This year, applications have also been received from some of the leading companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, once again confirming that sustainable business practices are the path to success. The majority, or 87%, of the applicant companies believe they are actively working to reduce their environmental impact. Additionally, 67% of companies state that they offer salaries equal to or higher than the average net salary in their industry.

The applications have shown that there are numerous private sector initiatives that serve as inspiration for all of us because, while the world faces enormous economic, social, and environmental challenges, Bosnia and Herzegovina has fantastic examples that are indeed the pioneers of the future.

SDG Business Pioneers Award is an exceptional opportunity to showcase commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. This isn’t just about recognition; it’s about joining a global movement that values sustainability at the core of business practice,“ said Helena Lagerlöf, ambassador of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the application period, the SDG Business Pioneers Award in Bosnia and Herzegovina was presented at three important events: the Solar Summit in Banja Luka, the Mini Woman Comm conference, and the ‘Women in Business’ conference in Sarajevo.

The selection process for finalists will conclude by the end of April, and the finalists will be promoted through the communication channels of UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the SDG2BiH program, as well as the communication channels of donors and partners. Winners will be announced and trophies presented at the official Awards ceremony.

This year’s application process for the Award is in line with the latest market trends, updated to follow the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and ESG (Environmental Social Governance) standards.

The Award is organized as part of the “Translating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina into Sustainable and Inclusive Growth” programme, financed by Sweden and implemented by UNDP in partnership with UNICEF and UN Women, within the overall support of the United Nations to the BiH authorities in implementing the SDG Framework in BiH.
